PSL’s newest team is Multan Sultans, worth $41.6 million. Multan Sultans is the 6th team to be included for PSL 3rd edition 2018. The third edition of the Pakistan Super League will see the addition of Multan Sultans as the sixth team in the competition.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) terminated the eight-year ownership rights of Multan Sultans in November 2018. Ali Khan Tareen (The son of the very famous politician of PTI Jahangir Khan Tareen) won the rights of the team on 20 December 2018 and announced on 6 January 2019 that team would compete with the same name in the rest of the seasons.
The team is nominally based in Multan and was formed in 2017 to compete in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Ali Tareen, the owner of Multan Sultans, again selected the Multan Sultans name for the sixth team. Now we have clear that there will be no 7th team in PSL. There will be only 6 teams and the 6th team is Multan Sultans.

It will now be interesting to see how will the PSL Draft go given the inclusion of this 6th side. A new squad will obviously be named, which means other teams might have to release a few players back to their draft pool, that will be announced before the start of the PSL Draft. The sixth team will be allowed to pick around 10 players from the various categories; players who are released by the other five teams. As a result they will enter the PSL Draft on a level-playing field as the rest of the five teams.
One of the reasons why a sixth team was included in the PSL is to cash in on the ever-increasing popularity of the cricket league. Last season, Pakistan cricket fans had taken to the PSL like fish towater, surpassing most expectations as far as TV ratings are concerned.
